An Authentic Call to Action

Ok, so yall have told that you enjoy these transparent vulnerable posts. So we are going to keep it going to see if you mean it.
Have you ever been consistent at something and not seen the growth and development that you envisioned seeing? Maybe you worked out consistently for months but you never saw it reflected on the scale. Maybe you worked hard to spend less money for a whole year but your savings balance didn’t move much at all. Sometimes even while you are working hard, doing something positive, and building something meaningful, the results you seek never look the way you thought they would. And yes, maybe you were gaining muscle while losing fat and that’s why you didn’t see it reflected on the scale. And maybe you had more disposable income to take care of emergencies that year that you would not have had if you weren’t spending less. There’s always a positive side to consider. But can we be honest, that not seeing what we envisioned can feel a little demotivating? And if we are not careful, we can find ourselves giving up right before we turn that plateau corner and start seeing the results we seek.
That is what had been happening with me regarding REAL Women Rock. The team and I have been consistently convening sister circles, intensives, Masterclasses, Bootcamps, and Facilitator trainings since 2013! We have faithfully maintained an online presence via social media and virtual sister circles all of that time. And before the pandemic, every metric we tracked about our work was increasing - email list subscribers, social media followers, invested ALL Access Members, sister circle attendance, number of sister circles forming - all of it was increasing rapidly.
And then the pandemic hit. And not only did all of us as individuals experience regression, but our nonprofit work did as well. We released ALL Access Members from their financial obligations because it was the only right thing to do. And honestly, because team and I had to prioritize our personal situations, we stopped all gatherings and communications for a while. The first thing to come back was email communication and virtual sister circles but as you can imagine, it took us a while to regain our footing. You see, we have been determined to stay afloat and keep doing the work but we committed to each other never to push ourselves beyond our collective capacity because we can’t serve other women from empty cups. As a result, we have very rarely pressed our figurative accelerator and much more often eased on the brakes, reducing our number of active sister circles and live trainings and not doing as much marketing.
This was necessary and providential to ensure we didn’t burn out and remained committed to the work long-term. But can I tell you that even though the slowing down was totally necessary for all of us, it also left me feeling a little blah.
Because I believe so strongly in our mission to create safe spaces for women to do soul work on themselves, I felt like we were robbing hundreds of women the blessing of convening when we didn’t do more. I felt like the burden of our vision to ensure that every woman has a safe space and a circle of sisters no matter where she lives in the world, rested squarely and solely on our shoulders. I felt like any complacency I exhibited prevented that from occurring. I felt like we were failing.
Now, in my head, I know that wasn’t true. We managed to stay active and compliant when so many organizations completely withered away after the pandemic. That meant something. It also mattered that many of the women who connected with us from the beginning or close to it still continue to rock with us. They see and know the power of our work and have committed to seeing it manifest at a greater level. I’ve never had to do this work all by myself. There’s always been a group of women (and my hubby) standing right there beside me making it happen.
But because I see the power of our work, the promise of our potential and the golden opportunity we have to connect women from around the world, I get impatient and discontent. It caused me to focus on what we had not yet achieved instead of what we had accomplished. And as you know, focusing on the negative is a sure fire way to replicate it. My preoccupation with what was missing prevented me from manifesting more. My ruminating over past victories got in the way of me dreaming up new ways to win in this new normal.
Can anybody relate!?!
Well, if you are anything like me, you can only do that for so long before your soul stops whispering and starts screaming, “no more!”
At some point, we all get tired of the numbers on the scale or the lack of numbers in the bank account or the excuses that keep us in the same spot. And it is at that point that we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and decide to do something different.
Well fast forward, a little over 5 years and REAL Women Rock is not only doing the great work we’ve always done but we have committed to doing things differently to ensure that we move beyond our post-pandemic plateau and into our most productive and impactful decade ever.
